DELEGATE SCOTT: PRIVATE-PUBLIC PARTNERSHIPS WILL BUILD ROADS FASTER

Testifies Before Commonwealth Transportation Board

CULPEPER, VA – During a public hearing this week, Delegate Edward T. “Ed” Scott told the Commonwealth Transportation Board that additional funding from local and private sources will help construction for critical road projects get underway faster.

“With the new funding from local and private partners critical road construction will be able to be completed much faster,” noted Scott, who serves on the House Transportation Committee.  “In addition, I have voted for a constitutional amendment to protect the Transportation Trust Fund, which funds road improvements as well as voting to provide $850 million dollars in new funding for transportation projects that will help fund transportation improvements in the rapidly growing area of Culpeper, Madison, and Orange Counties.”

Scott testified before the Secretary of Transportation and the Commonwealth Transportation Board at this week’s Six-Year Road Improvement Plan public hearing on Tuesday, April 18th. Conducted by videoconference from locations across the Commonwealth, Delegate Scott joined other members of the General Assembly, local government leaders, and the general public in providing input on the transportation projects before the Board.

Delegate Scott noted the assistance provided by the General Assembly as a result of this year’s legislative session. In particular, the expanded revenue-sharing program, which Scott wrote and sponsored, and public-private partnership will allow needed road construction to move forward with funding from new local and private partners.

“As a member of the General Assembly and the Transportation Committee, I am committed to advance transportation improvements in the 30th House District and the Culpeper Transportation District,” Scott said. “The innovative solutions offered this year are a positive step to enhancing economic development and improving the quality of life for the people I represent.”

In extended comments after the hearing, Delegate Scott said that transportation is just one of the issues that he has addressed in detail in his first term. “From agribusiness to assisted living facilities, I have worked to turn constituent input into meaningful legislation. That will continue in my second term.”

Delegate Ed Scott represents Culpeper, Madison, and the majority of Orange County in the Virginia General Assembly.
